Summary

Mailgun's free plan sends 100 emails a day from 1 custom domain, with 1 inbound route and 1 day of logs. Basic is $15 a month for 10,000 emails, 5 routes and 1 domain; Foundation $35 for 50,000 with 1,000 domains, full inbound routing and 5 days of logs; Scale $90 for 100,000 with a dedicated IP and 30 days of logs. Receiving is where the plan matters most: routes post parsed mail to your app, and the number of routes grows with the price. MarkRelay receives through Cloudflare Email Routing with no route limit in the app, stores each message in a mailbox and posts an HMAC-signed webhook, for $99 a year plus Cloudflare.

Why route limits matter

Each Mailgun route matches incoming mail and forwards it somewhere. With 1 route on Free and 5 on Basic, a product that gives every customer, workspace or agent its own address outgrows the cheap plans on receiving before it does on sending.

MarkRelay handles this with one Cloudflare catch-all rule to its Worker. Every mailbox you create receives without a new rule, unknown addresses are rejected, and each mailbox can have its own webhook and API key. Received mail stays in your own Cloudflare account instead of a log that expires.

Where MarkRelay fits

A good fit when

  • Many receiving addresses, one per customer, workspace or AI agent.
  • Inbound mail that should land in a readable mailbox and your app at once.

Look elsewhere when

  • High-volume sending with dedicated IPs: Mailgun Scale includes one.
  • Domains whose DNS is not on Cloudflare.
