Summary

Resend's free plan sends 3,000 emails a month, at most 100 a day, from 3 domains with one webhook endpoint. Pro is $20/month for 50,000 emails (or $35 for 100,000) with no daily limit, then $0.90 per 1,000. Received emails count toward the same quota. Among free tiers it is the most generous of the API-first services we checked; SendGrid now offers only a 60-day trial. If your domain is on Cloudflare, Email Sending costs $5/month with 3,000 emails included, and MarkRelay adds mailboxes, webmail and an API on top of it for $99/year.

Key findings

  1. 1Free: 3,000 emails a month, 100 a day, 3 domains, 1 webhook endpoint, 30 days of data, no overage.
  2. 2Pro: $20/month for 50,000 emails or $35 for 100,000, 10 domains, no daily limit, then $0.90 per 1,000.
  3. 3Received email counts toward the same quota. 3 receiving inboxes are included; paid plans add more at $1 per inbox a month.
  4. 4The API allows 10 requests per second per team by default; Resend raises it for trusted senders on request.
  5. 5Dedicated IPs are a $30/month add-on on Scale (from $90/month); Free and Pro send from shared IPs.

Questions this report answers

Asked by real people, quoted as they wrote them.

“Sendgrid Free Email API plan deprecated for a paid ones. Alternatives?”

r/selfhosted, 39 comments

SendGrid now lists a 60-day trial at 100 emails a day, then Essentials from $19.95/month. Permanent free tiers we checked: Resend 3,000 a month (100 a day), Brevo 300 a day, SMTP2GO 1,000 a month, Mailgun 100 a day with one domain.

“What service do you use to send transactional emails via API/SMTP?”

r/webdev, 41 comments

Resend offers both a REST API and SMTP relay on every plan, including Free. So do Brevo and SMTP2GO; Cloudflare Email Sending offers a Workers binding, a REST API and SMTP on Workers Paid.

“Best transactional email service for Next.js apps”

r/nextjs, 53 comments

Resend ships official SDKs and React Email, which fit a Next.js codebase. On cost alone at volume, Amazon SES is cheaper per email. If the app also has to receive mail, check how each counts it: Resend counts received mail toward the sending quota.

“Would you recommend Resend for newsletter bulk email sending?”

r/webdev, 17 comments

Resend's marketing plans are priced by contacts, not emails: free for 1,000 contacts, then $40/month for 5,000 and $80 for 10,000. MarkRelay sends broadcasts from your own Cloudflare account at Cloudflare's per-email price, with no contact tiers.

What counts toward the quota

Every email Resend sends counts, and so does every email it receives for you: Resend's pricing page says each received email counts toward the transactional quota. An app that sends 2,000 and receives 1,500 emails a month is over the free 3,000.

Resend lists no plan between Free and Pro, so outgrowing 100 a day means $20 a month.

Where MarkRelay fits

A good fit when

  • Your domain is on Cloudflare and you want sending and receiving in your own account, with receiving free.
  • The app needs real mailboxes your team can open, not only an API.
  • Many domains or inboxes: no per-domain or per-inbox fee.

Look elsewhere when

  • You want a hosted API with nothing to deploy and official SDKs in many languages: Resend fits better.
  • You need dedicated IPs or a sending SLA.
